Bridging and Belonging: A Senior Community Mosaic

Bridging and Belong aims to provide art classes to seniors who live in assisted living or nursing care facilities. These clients have medical concerns and/or dementia or memory loss diagnoses. Together with the lifestyle enrichment directors of Presbyterian SeniorCare in Oakmont, we will execute a mosaic-like work of art created by their residents, families, and staff. It is their wish that this piece of art be gifted to the residents at the new Mosaic Apartments in Oakland, which is the first affordable senior housing complex that caters to LGBTQ+ seniors in Western Pennsylvania. The project is based on the work of Chicago based artist, Reginald Laurent. He explains his art, "my art imitates life because it is representative of the diversity and inclusion of every culture, the backbone of what makes the world such an interesting, complex, and beautiful place."
