Skate Englewood

My mission is to give black and brown youth in my area the same opportunity and access to skateboarding as the Northside of Chicago. With this in mind, I started providing free skateboard lessons in the Englewood neighborhood near Lindblom Park. These skateboard lessons are hosted with the purpose of building upon a growing project called “Skate Englewood” which I started in the Spring 2023-24 school year.

I collect new & used skateboard parts from skateboard shops across Chicagoland. With these materials, I build fully assembled skateboards to donate to youth for their lessons and personal use. My goal is to turn this project into. a non-profit organization that becomes a major role in revitalizing the reputation of the Englewood neighborhood and the people who reside on Chicago's south side.

The grant will go toward the costs of skateboarding safety equipment, refreshments for skate lesson participants, materials to plan and build DIY skateboard obstacles, arts supplies, more skateboard parts and decks, and a skateboard fund that will help skateboarders in low-income neighborhoods have access to skateboarding.
