Animal Assisted Therapy: Miniature Horse

Stash is a certified miniature therapy horse and has a permit with Animal Services, Toronto to visit hospitals, healthcare facilities, libraries and schools. Some visits are with younger children, other visits are with seniors. Many visits focus on patients who are palliative or complex care who cannot exit their care home easily. Stash goes on visits approximately 1-2x monthly.

Animal assisted therapy provides a different type of healthcare that is under-utilized in Canada and supporting these initiatives makes everyone's like more awesome. Stash is unique in that he is the only horse that performs this service in Toronto, most other therapy animals are registered canines and several felines. As a horse, he presents a unique experience for many seniors to reminisce about their lives outside of the care institutions. It also provides a positive experience to assist in diversifying experiences for cognitive exercise.
