I am composing and producing a Children’s Opera to be performed in three locations in my local community of Castlemilk. I will be working with a librettist and three facilitating artists to deliver educational outreach in school and community venues. With the grant from The Awesome Foundation, I will purchase a series of percussion instruments that the youth audience will be able to use to interact with the facilitating artists in the Children's Opera. Using Orff and similar percussion instruments will add a new layer of creativity and interactivity with the performers, allowing the children to be part of the musical performance itself! These instruments range from drums, shakers, guiros, and bells. I am hoping that the feedback and experience will help allow me to establish a Children's Opera production company and continue to give interactive music opportunities to youth across Glasgow.
