Communi-TEA

Communi-TEA provides an afternoon of pampering just for women who are homeless, extremely low income, victims of domestic violence and sheltered. This is the 2nd year that the San Jose Woman's Club (SJWC) will be inviting women clients of local agencies such as InnVision, Downtown Streets Team. Next Door Solutions for Domestic Violence and Sacred Heart Community Service to a luncheon and bra distribution event by Be a Dear and Donate a Brassiere. There will be inspirational speakers, music and other surprises.

The host in 2018 is SCC Supervisor Cindy Chavez who will greet the women and share her personal story. This year we will also add a resource fair to help women make linkages to services in the community that they may not be aware of. There will be Woman of Impact sitting at each table to share the meal. I've seen first-hand how the women appreciate when other women take the time to listen and share their stories.

Many of the women who come are in survival mode; living in shelters, cars and the streets. Most have experienced trauma and abuse either as children or adults. The Communi-TEA’s goal is to provide them with something to look forward to, a break from the stress they experience daily, and the awareness that there are women from all walks of life who support them.  It's a fun afternoon and the women leave with a swag bag, bras and panties, a portrait and a smile.

The SJWC is volunteer run and the event is a collaboration of members from the club and other caring women. We are asking for your SUPPORT in helping to ensure that every woman leaves with 2 sets of undergarments. If you look at the attached images you will clearly see just how happy the women are to find a bra that fits. Having a bra is a matter of dignity and hygiene.
