As part of the ongoing partnership between STEM MINDS and Girls Incorporated of York Region, we are hoping to further our combined mission of getting more girls involved in STEM. STEM MINDS will provide quality STEM-based after school programming developed to meet the needs and interests of participants in Girls Inc. programs on an ongoing basis. Through the provision of such programs and activities, STEM MINDS and Girls Inc. will share their knowledge, skills, and resources to break down the barriers that girls face when entering the world of STEM, increase confidence and self-esteem in participants, and provide participants with a chance to develop important skills and competencies for success in the 21st century.
Some opportunities for participants include: 1. 3D Design and Printing: Our 3D Design program gives participants an introduction to digital design. Participants will learn a whole new way of thinking in three dimensions and are sure to enjoy having their digital designs come to life with our 3D printing technology.
Digital Media: Convinced you’re going to be YouTube famous? Well, here’s the chance to learn the skills you’ll need. We offer a variety of options including digital film, digital photography, digital music and more that give participants the chance to explore their artistic side in a digital context.
Coding: Participants will get the opportunity to learn another language; the language of programming! Through a variety of game-based activities that promote problem-solving and creativity, participants will get to explore the world of coding and maybe even learn what they want to be when they grow up. The opportunities with coding are endless!
Robotics: Our LEGO EV3 Robotics program gives students an opportunity to learn about Robotics and Coding. Using the ever-popular LEGO EV3 Robot, students will experience a variety of challenges and learn to problem-solve and collaborate in the process.
