The School of Social Work Community Hub Art Drop-In is a low-barrier, welcoming space where community members can engage in creative expression, connect with others, and access free art materials in a supportive environment. No artistic experience is required, and participation is open to all.
The Art Drop-In is designed to be flexible and participant-led, allowing community members to create at their own pace without pressure, instruction or expectation. All materials and snacks are provided at no cost. The program emphasizes accessibility, dignity and inclusivity, ensuring that participants can engage in whatever way feels comfortable for them- whether actively creating or simply socializing in the space.

The program recognizes that opportunities to simply “be” are often inaccessible for people facing structural barriers such as housing instability, poverty and social exclusion. Grounded in trauma-informed and harm-reduction principles, the Art Drop-In prioritizes dignity, choice, and autonomy. Participants are invited to engage in creative activity at their own pace, whether that means actively making art, observing, socializing or resting in the space.

The School of Social Work Community Hub Art Drop-In provides individuals of all walks of life, particularly those with lived experiences of poverty and homelessness, a welcoming space to engage in creative expression and therapeutic conversation. The drop in space allows participants to connect with others and access art materials in a supportive environment. No artistic experience is required, and all art supplies are provided at no cost to participants. There is no fee to attend the drop-in.

The Art Drop-In currently operates out of the Social Development Centre's Civic Hub, as well as St. Johns Kitchen. We are also looking into expanding by working alongside Tiny City Makers which operates out of Better Tent City, however we receive no funding and all supplies are donated or out of pocket.
