Asquith High School Quick Reads Library Collection
Our ‘Quick Reads’ collection, comprising hi-lo (high interest – low vocabulary) books, plays a vital role in supporting students who may struggle with traditional texts, including those with learning difficulties, English as an additional language, or lower literacy levels. These age-appropriate and engaging books are essential for motivating reluctant readers, boosting confidence, and fostering a lifelong love of reading.
In a recent comprehensive stock take exercise, we found that the average age of these resources is 18 years, resulting in limited appeal and relevance for today’s students. Updating the ‘Quick Reads’ collection is critical to maintaining an inclusive, welcoming space that truly supports all learners.
By revitalising our ‘Quick Reads’ collection, this project directly addresses literacy barriers, promoting inclusion and equitable learning opportunities. The refreshed collection will serve as a sustainable resource, accessible for years to come and integral to ongoing literacy support programs across the school.
It encourages independent reading and improves student outcomes well beyond the immediate funding period, ensuring lasting impact.
