Ipswich Street Stewards

Ipswich Street Stewards - A project to continue to care for and beautify our community. Volunteers would sign up to be a steward of a particular street. In doing so, they would be choosing to be responsible for picking up trash on the side of the road. Volunteers would be provided with a bucket, gloves, and trash grabber as equipment. Ongoing community engagement with removal of trash and small plastics would help to improve the environment, protect our waterways, reduce animal fallout, beautify our community, and provide a more broad sense of community and civility. Street stewards can also provide input about maintenance of streets. Future evolution and growth may include recommendations for light landscaping with removal of invasives, planting pollinator friendly and attractive florals, as well as things like art installations and public events. Rotating street block parties with road closures for pedestrians during the summer months might be a way to encourage engagement with the local community in different areas or a town wide street steward block party event where there are multiple (easily bypassed streets) are closed and people can attend locally.
