Weedy Wednesday with Biodiversity McLaren Vale

Biodiversity McLaren Vale (BMV) is a collaboration between local community, industry and government with a mission to enhance indigenous biodiversity within the McLaren Vale region. We are a not-for-profit organisation that forges relationships within our local community to create tangible environmental outcomes for our stakeholders and volunteers alike.

We work with private landholders to target creek lines and landscapes around the region to remove feral and invasive vegetation and replace them with native species. We continue to nurture and revitalise these landscapes to create healthy, biodiverse corridor linkages across our region, beckoning native fauna back to the area.

We are motivated to create resilience for the Southern Fleurieu Region, not only environmentally, but culturally and economically as well. Our engagement of a range of stakeholders across the region from industry to government has seen BMV go from strength to strength with up to 100 volunteers attending our monthly Field Days and over 50 private landholders worked with across the region.

We continue to build our iconic brand – the yellow tailed black cockatoo – by proudly issuing all partners with personalised signs to erect at their property and display how far reaching our impact is across the region. So next time you’re driving around McLaren Vale, have a look, you may be surprised at how many you can count!

As our network continues to grow, as do our projects. This year, BMV help put in over 7000 plants over 15 sites across the region and also added to our flag our Weedy Wednesday team. They are a group of volunteers that meet weekly to undertake smaller scale projects across the region. This continued growth is not possible without the valued support of our partners.
