GetWarmr

GetWarmr is a charitable project that makes and donates handmade crocheted items such as scarves, and hats to local homeless shelters in Jersey City.

I am an 8th grader and crochet enthusiast. I started my project GetWarmr to crochet for good.

Winter in NJ is harsh on the homeless that roam the streets by day and desperately try to keep warm by night. As the air turns colder, their heart-wrenching daily struggle for warmth begins. In the winter of 2020, I crocheted and donated 68 infinity scarves to our local homeless shelter to help our community.

In the summer of 2020, I crocheted and donated 145 preemie baby hats to Empty Cradle Project, The Still Remembered Project, and MiKaylee’s Hope. My hats were included in memory boxes as a humble token of love and support to bereaved parents who have lost a baby.

I believe that we rise by lifting others. I have grown up seeing homeless people on the streets of my hometown and had always wanted to do something to make their lives a little bit easier. I hope that my scarves would be a small token of warmth and hope during the harsh winter season.
