mySight is a satirical concept art project that will draw attention to solutions to the homelessness problem in San Francisco. The project consists of three components: Street theater, a satirical video, and a website.
mySight is a new product that claims to sell people a technological solution to homelessness - and reality mySight is glasses with blinders on the sides to block out your vision, helping you ignore the problems that still exist.
In the street theater performance, we will pose as a new startup and ask people to join our user testing booth outside tech companies in San Francisco. We will bring people in by offering them the chance to revolutionize the way they interact with the world around them. Once we’ve led them through the experience of demoing mySight, we will offer promotional pamphlets which point people towards tangible ways to address homelessness, including tips for compassionate ways to interact with unhoused folks, local organizations to donate money to or volunteer with, and details on policies and proposals to push for with local representatives. We will also hand out supplies to the unhoused population.
In addition to the in-person elements of this project, we will publish and promote a startup website and satirical video about mySight to increase the reach of the project and lead people to solutions.
mySight is a concept similar to a "solution to the election" lalalala.us , but by reaching people in person we can engage with people more deeply and introduce them to local solutions.
