The Doula Project
The Doula Project provides free compassionate care and emotional, physical, and informational support to people across the spectrum of pregnancy. We work to create a society in which all pregnant people have access to the care and support they need during their pregnancies and the ability to make healthy decisions for themselves, whether they face birth, miscarriage, stillbirth, fetal anomaly, or abortion. We believe that all pregnancy outcomes should be honored and supported.
The Doula Project is a NYC-based, volunteer-run, collectively led organization of over fifty full-spectrum doulas. Our doulas have backgrounds as social justice activists, teachers, childbirth educators, birth doulas, social workers, and reproductive health professionals. We partner with Planned Parenthood Brooklyn, Planned Parenthood Bronx, several public hospitals, and other service providers to provide full-spectrum doula services.
Given the rising maternal mortality rates and health care disparities that disproportionately affect pregnant people of color, the work of doulas is increasingly critical in protecting the health of marginalized populations.
Full-spectrum doulas also help defend reproductive freedom by providing the support people need to exercise their rights and make free choices regarding their reproductive health.
