The San José chapter of the Awesome Foundation is part of a global community advancing the interest of awesome in the universe, up to $1000 at a time.
The Awesome Foundation San José is but one of over 80 chapters around the world. Each chapter is fully autonomous, in charge of defining what “awesome” means to it.
For us, an awesome project exists in the public realm, and fills people with wonder, awe, and inspiration. It is about creating a memory that shapes the spectator’s relationship and image of our city, and makes them cherish the time they spend here.
We support awesome projects through micro grants, usually given out quarterly. These micro grants come out of our "trustees’" pockets, and are given on a no-strings-attached basis to awardees.
We give out grants four times a year. Proposals are due December 31, March 31, June 30, and September 30 and we work with the grantees to coordinate the transfer of the grant money after its awarded. If your submission is time sensitive please submit your proposal early.

When will I know whether or not I've received a grant? Application cycles run from the first to the last day of every month. We will let you know whether or not you've won by the end of the following month. So, for instance, if you applied November 28th, then you will be informed via email by December 30th (but usually earlier).
Can I apply again? Absolutely. Please do!
Can I get some pro-tips, please? Certainly!
a.) Keep your application both brief and specific.
b.) Think about your idea. Does your project live in the public realm? Does it make other people's lives awesome? Can others enjoy your idea at no cost? Dream big. We are not just another arts or charity funding source. We're here to promote more awesomeness in the world.
c.) We only fund projects where the grant shows tangible results. In other words, we give grants to projects with clear plans for the money.
d.) Will $1000 fully fund the project or a tangible, significant piece of your project? We generally like to fund projects that we can fully fund or at least fund a stand-alone element.
