Luki Bikes Adventure Race

In collaboration with American Indian Health & Family Services (AIHFS), we’re hosting an Adventure Race for Native American youth in Detroit on August 14, 2025. Open to participants in our summer biking program, the event is free and designed to inspire outdoor exploration, teamwork, and cultural connection through hands-on learning in the outdoors.

Up to 30 youth (ages 6–18) will be divided into teams, each guided by a trained adult mentor. Youth will navigate between stages using maps or clues and take on skills challenges at each transition, testing their knowledge of outdoor survival and cultural ecology, including water purification, fire-making, and plant identification. Activities will include biking, hiking, kayaking/canoeing, geocaching, and wayfinding.

All adults involved have first aid training, and kayaking equipment will be provided by a local, minority- and woman-owned outfitter. Each participant will receive a custom medal or ribbon created by a Native artist, recognizing their accomplishments.

This initiative reflects our commitment to equitable access to nature, culturally grounded youth development, and empowering Native youth through connection to land, community, and self.
