The Calvert Street Loop

The Calvert Street Loop, named after a local bus line, is a printed quarterly neighborhood magazine conceived by a few residents interested in a creative project to bring our neighborhood closer together. Our neighborhood—more specifically the three streets of Calvert Street NW, Biltmore Street NW, and Cliffbourne Place NW—is one full of interesting people of all ages, and yet, thanks to Washington’s fast pace and transient culture, these are people that know very little about one another. Our solution is simple: a small local publication full of interviews, histories, artwork, poems, classifieds, restaurant recommendations, recipes, advice, and crosswords, printed and distributed four times a year. Our goal is to build community connections through light-hearted and informative pieces written for and by the neighbors that we live amongst, and it appears that many residents are interested—this idea has already generated some real excitement in the neighborhood, and we believe that a grant from the Awesome Foundation would enable our idea to pick up steam. We have printed our first edition (photos attached) through the generous financial backing of a single committed neighbor, but in the interest of not relying on such donations in perpetuity we are turning to the Awesome Foundation for their support of our next editions!
