Ward 7 Juneteenth Parade

Ward 7 Juneteenth Parade – A Celebration of Freedom, Culture, and Community

The Ward 7 Juneteenth Parade is Washington, D.C.’s first official Juneteenth parade, created to honor the historic significance of June 19, 1865—when the last enslaved African Americans were informed of their freedom—and to celebrate the strength, pride, and cultural richness of communities in Ward 7 and throughout the District.

This community-led event brings the streets of Ward 7 to life with music, movement, and shared purpose. It features a lively procession of marching bands, youth dance teams, community groups, local artists, and cultural organizations—each one contributing to a joyful, meaningful expression of history and hope. It’s a moment to honor the past while celebrating the present-day spirit and resilience of D.C.’s Black communities.

The celebration doesn’t stop with the parade. A community festival follows, with live performances, food vendors, local artisans, and family-friendly activities. Residents can connect with local service providers, learn about community resources, and enjoy a day designed to uplift, educate, and unite.

Organized by Ward 7 residents and supported by a range of local partners, the parade centers the voices and leadership of the community. It promotes civic pride, encourages cross-neighborhood connection, and provides a platform for local talent and culture to shine.

The Ward 7 Juneteenth Parade is more than an event—it’s the beginning of a new tradition. It reflects the heart of Ward 7: vibrant, proud, and deeply rooted in history. With each drumbeat and dance step, it brings people together to reflect, celebrate, and look forward—together.
