Olly Olly Oxen Free

Olly Olly Oxen Free” is a catchphrase used in children’s games to indicate that players who are hiding can come out into the open without losing the game, that the position of the sides in a game has changed, or, alternatively, that the game is entirely over. The newest series by Sumner Mormeneo explores this playful yet dark concept of truth through body language. The surreal imagery throughout Sumner’s work reinforces the psychology of the conscious and subconscious; Mormeneo’s new works delves into what one intends to convey in contrast to what is actually perceived.

We will be hosting the opening of Sumner Mermeno's exhibition at CityArt's first floor Gallery space on August 20th. This will be unlike any exhibition ever done in the City. Sumner is best know for his performance work titled "The Infinite Conversation" this is a surreal Chaplin-esque performance piece that combines pantomime, projection mapping, and larger than life moving props. The story centers around "The Mover" as he begins unpacking in a new space. As objects begin to animate and play with his head, he finds himself falling deeper into the world of his subconscious.

Throughout the last year Sumner has dedicated himself to his visual arts. On the evening of the opening, Sumner will transform into his character "The Mover" and put on two performances which involve describing his artwork though his silent performance.

We will also be hosting a closing preformance on Thursday, September
