Hawaii Community Optical Observation Network

The HICOON project is a mission to bring the underwater world of Oahu to the surface in real-time. We are expanding our network of live-streaming underwater cameras at key dive sites (like Kewalo Pipe and the Electric Beach) to provide the community with 24/7 visibility into ocean conditions, surge, and marine life activity.

While Lu’uLive already provides surface-level forecasts and drone views, these underwater "eyes" are a game-changer for ocean safety and conservation. By seeing real-time visibility and current before leaving home, divers can make safer decisions, reducing unnecessary travel and potential rescues. Furthermore, these cameras serve as a "Visual Archive," documenting coral reef health and providing a platform for local schools and researchers to observe Hawaii’s unique marine ecosystems without getting wet. It’s about making the ocean more accessible, safe, and transparent for everyone.
