CHANGING THE NARRATIVE

We have partnered with the Southern Maine Womens Reentry Center for an event and accompanying exhibition titled CHANGING THE NARRATIVE: VOICES AND STORIES FROM JUSTICE-IMPACTED WOMEN. This event is a part of the Freedom and Captivity project.

Our event will feature poetry, writing, spoken word, and visual art made by currently incarcerated women. The work will address what it is to be a woman in captivity and a seeker and demander of freedom. We hope to ignite more energy and efforts around linking the voices of justice-impacted women in an effort to create a national (big dreams!) net of support for women who have lost their freedom and are on the path toward reclaiming it.

To commemorate the event and to uplift the artistic voices included, we would like to produce a chapbook of the featured work. The book will be available for free at our gallery.

In addition to the event, we will also feature work on display at the gallery for the months of November and December. We want to uplift the participating women and hope that this event, the work on display, and the chapbook will validate their efforts, experiences, and voices.

All of the work is currently being made by the women so we have limited imagery to share. We've included images of our space from past events as examples.
