EmbraceHer - A Program from EmpowHERto

This introductory 12-week program increases girls' awareness of mental health, focusing on social, emotional, and psychological well being. Girls will have an opportunity to take part in various workshops and activities. To further their understanding of mental health and wellness, the group will explore the history of common mental health disorders, stigmas, and contributing factors, followed by instruction on various coping and self-care techniques and resources. The girls will additionally have access to five free one-on-one therapy sessions.

Group facilitators will lead girls through workshops such as Mental Health 101; The Socioeconomic and Environmental Factors of Mental Health; Support and Coping Techniques; and Communication and Interpersonal Skills. Girls will also have the opportunity to take part in an art therapy session, and receive a mental health first aid certification.

The first five weeks of the program will be delivered in a group setting through Zoom twice a week, utilizing Google Classroom for activities and assignments. The last five weeks of the program will focus on weekly one-on-one sessions with the therapist, also via Zoom. Girls will have the option to opt out of counseling and choose either group or one-on-one mental health check-ins with the program mentor.
