About Awesome Peekskill

Peekskill is a creative, diverse city on the eastern bank of the Hudson River—a place where public art isn’t an afterthought, it’s part of how the city tells its story.

Awesome Peekskill exists to back “small, weird, wonderful” ideas that make Peekskill more connected, more joyful, and more alive. We’re a volunteer-run chapter of the Awesome Foundation: a group of local trustees who pool money to award $1,000 grants to projects that create awesomeness in the community. The grant is no-strings-attached—your idea stays yours.

We’re excited by projects that are:
● Public-facing (broadly accessible, shared, or community-centered)
● Creative + doable (a clear plan where $1,000 makes a real difference)
● Inclusive (projects that welcome participation and reflect Peekskill’s diversity)
● Joyful, surprising, helpful, or beautiful (or all of the above)
Examples of “Awesome Peekskill–ish” projects:
● A pop-up performance, exhibit, or artist-led community event
● A mural, temporary installation, projection, or creative wayfinding
● Free workshops for neighbors (art, making, storytelling, music, movement)
● Micro-infrastructure for community creativity (materials, tools, supplies)
● Projects that activate overlooked spaces or bring people together across communities

Who can apply:
If your project benefits Peekskill, we want to hear about it.
You don’t have to live in Peekskill to apply—if you’re near Peekskill (or your project happens here / serves the community here), it’s absolutely okay to submit for consideration.

What we don’t fund
To keep things fair and focused, we generally don’t fund:
● For-profit ventures (or anything primarily designed to generate profit)
● Ongoing salaries / rent / general operating support
● Projects without a clear local benefit
● Travel-only requests (flights/hotels, etc.)
