Dr. John M Denison Secondary School is made up of a diverse cultural landscape of students from all over the World. This can be a barrier in finding connections for students and families to find a sense of belonginging; we would like to find opportunity in this diversity to bring people together.

We will be hosting an International Night where students will represent their culture at an information booth, complete with music, art, food and crafts where local Newmarket community and school members can come learn, ask questions and indulge in culturally specific foods and entertainment.

Our hope is to show that there are more similarities amongst these different cultures and help find comradery. The event will be open to local Newmarket residents with the hope that everyone will see their culture reflected at the school and feel a sense of belonging and welcome.

Denison has a Newcomers Club and many ELL classes, but this event will be organized and run by all students to be reflective of all cultures and backgrounds. Including all students in this event will make this a school wide initiative to bring students and their families together.
