Born to Dance

I want to help people feel happy and free through dance. Dance is one of the oldest forms of human communication, yet it is taught to children as a series of steps to be followed correctly or wrongly. So many people say "I can't dance", "I'm a terrible dancer" which makes me so sad - when we know to feel the rhythm of music running through our bodies, and have the freedom to respond and move instinctively, that's dance. And when people do it, it brings them joy, energy, positivity. There is science behind the many benefits of dance (neurological, muscular, hormonal, etc). My dance series will be totally fun & include some basic starter "instructions" for total newbies, to ease them in.

I see rooms full of people dancing together, in the moment and filled with joy and smiles. I myself love to dance spontaneously and know personally how much joy it creates.

Initial Target Groups (re a series that runs for 6-12 months or longer!)
1. Seniors
2. Challenged women (with trust issues from lived experiences)
3. People with and without disabilities together
4. Young working adults

Poss programme: 1. Why dance exists (brief history of dance around the world, as one of the oldest and most fundamental ways humans have communicated
meaning and emotion to each other; tied to rhythm of the heartbeat)
2. What does it mean to dance? (challenging our stereotypical notions of dance as a choreographed/step-based activity that must be learned)
3. 3-5min music video screening of the oldest dance forms in the world/world music/etc (catchy and rhythmic to get their feet tapping and heads moving)
4. Ice-breakers/warm-up (interactive activity that serves dual purpose of warming up muscles, relaxing the participants and inviting them to feel the rhythm and beats in their bodies and move instinctively)
5. Dancing & feeling the joy and energy of dancing together and alone
