Solid Ground Transitional Living
Solid Ground Sober Living is a community-centered program of The Lotus Center in Moorhead, MN, designed to provide safe, stable housing and supportive services for individuals in recovery. Our mission is to create a home environment where residents—whom we call “neighbors”—are supported in their journey toward long-term sobriety, independence, and community connection.
Many of our neighbors arrive at Solid Ground facing significant barriers. One of the most pressing obstacles is the lack of access to vital documents such as state IDs, birth certificates, and Social Security cards. Without these documents, individuals are unable to apply for jobs, secure housing, access healthcare, or enroll in educational opportunities. For many, the cost of replacing or obtaining these documents—often $30 to $50 per item—can be overwhelming and keep them stuck in a cycle of instability.
Our project seeks to remove this barrier by providing scholarships to cover the costs of vital documents for our neighbors. With $1,000 in funding, we would be able to provide direct assistance to residents who need identification to move forward in their recovery and life goals. Whether it is applying for a job, signing a lease, or accessing medical care, having these documents in hand opens doors and creates opportunities that are essential to rebuilding their lives.
What makes Solid Ground unique is that it not only offers housing, but also fosters a supportive, peer-driven community. Residents share meals, participate in household responsibilities, and engage in programming that connects them with resources and education. Through partnerships with local organizations, neighbors gain access to health services, life skills training, and opportunities for personal growth.
By supporting this project, you are investing in a simple yet transformative solution. A birth certificate or ID may seem small, but for someone rebuilding their life.
