The Village Program

The Village Program is a Grandparents for Grandchildren SA Inc. initiative designed to create support networks and structures around vulnerable children experiencing a family fracture resulting in kinship care, a.k.a Children living with their Grandparents.

The Program does this by coordinating times and places for kinship carers to meet, support each other socially and organise practical solutions locally to address any barriers to the children in their care. Essentially it would combine playgroup and support group aspects to act as a community hub, connecting themselves to relevant local services and to coordinate as a group effective ways to achieve goals that would be difficult to do so alone. The ultimate goal is for the group to become a ‘mirror family’ for vulnerable children as well as a way for them to connect with their local community and other services.
