The purpose of the Mobile Nature Center is to teach environmental education to preschool and elementary age children in Fargo/Moorhead through drop in nature activities, guided walks, and informal "open house" events. It will be a mobile art installation, science laboratory, and children’s natural history museum on wheels. The projects mission is to engage, educate, and inspire children through art and environmental education in an effort to protect Fargo’s natural environment for future generations.
The project is: Responsive: Mobility allows the center to move among communities where interest and outreach is most needed. It provides opportunities to collaborate with local organizations, support community events, and engage diverse and low income families.
Exploratory: Outdoor green spaces are abundant in the FM area. This project will partner with urban parks, community gardens, farmers markets, schools, and or libraries to inspire curiosity about the natural world within our urban landscape. Creative: The interior and exterior of the mobile nature center will invoke a sense of curiosity, celebrate urban wildlife, and provide hands on child-centered displays. Local artists will help with the design process. Design ideas include: a living prairie roof, hands-on sensory stations, wheelchair accessibility, a mini library nook, and exhibits that focus on our two greatest urban natural resources-the Red River and the tall grass prairie.
