home/body

With “home/body” Zooey Kim Conner will produce a quilted tapestry constructed as a meditation on access, inconvenience, and the forced absence of disabled and chronically ill people from public life. This human-sized tapestry serves as a stand-in for their, and other disabled folks’, presence in inaccessible locations. The project uses quilting to translate an absence resulting from marginalization into a physical, tangible presence. The final work, produced with Zooey's spouse—a window preservationist and craftsperson—prompts viewers to consider what it means to acknowledge those who are left out. AFRI's gift is helping out with materials support, and whatever else is needed to bring this awesome work to life!
