I am seeking $1,000 to create a collaborative painted possibly mosaic mural at Voyager Public Charter School. The mural will transform a long, currently plain wall into a colorful work of art representing our local ahupuaʻa—from the mountains and streams of Mānoa to the shoreline and ocean of Waikīkī.

All 220 students in kindergarten through eighth grade will contribute to the mural. Students will learn about the traditional Hawaiian ahupuaʻa system and the connections between the land, water, people, plants, animals, and ocean from mauka to makai. Each grade will help paint part of the mural, including images inspired by our mountains, rain, streams, native plants, birds, fish, coral reefs, and ocean. Their individual contributions will come together as one unified artwork, showing that every student is an important part of our school community and shares a responsibility to care for our environment.
