This project will assist in the creation of Birthday Bags for families with children who utilize the West End Community Centers Food Pantry. For families whose budgets are stretched thin providing their children with special birthday experiences can significantly drain their resources. The families the Food Pantry serves are already being forced to make difficult trade off decisions between paying for food, rent, and utilities. This Birthday Bag initiative will help decrease the worry, anxiety, depression and stress that coexist with food insecurity and can hinder family stability. This initiative is also a way to increase the moral of pantry guests giving them the ability to provide memorable birthday experiences for their children and bringing families together.
