We’re building a community owned and operated alternative internets in the Bay Area!
We’re using cheap off the shelf Wi-Fi routers running software developed by us (based on OpenWRT) to connect homes using point-to-point line of sight connections and allowing anyone with an existing internet connection to easily and safely share a limited portion of their bandwidth with the rest of the networks.
We'll use the money to spend equipment for long-range high-speed links, which will be important for bootstrapping the network in the beginning since people using the network will be far apart when there are fewer users.
