This year, Seaford Secondary College is excited to lead a group of 16 students and 3 staff on an enriching cultural and educational journey to Japan. Our diverse cohort spans Years 9 to 12 and includes an equal mix of
male and female students. Among our travelers are siblings, with one of them being neurodivergent who will be supported by both staff and family throughout the trip.
For many students, this will be their first experience travelling beyond the Fleurieu region, let alone overseas. To ensure this transformative opportunity is accessible regardless of financial background, we have capped
costs and are actively fundraising and seeking support to bridge the gap, with students and families contributing through savings and ongoing instalments.
Our itinerary includes stays in Osaka, Tokyo, and Morioka over a two-week study tour. The highlight of the trip is a seven-night homestay with host families in Morioka, (our sister school), where students will be fully
immersed in authentic Japanese family life. This in-depth cultural experience will broaden students’ perspectives, reinforce the language skills they have learnt in Japanese classes, and help them build lifelong connections.
We plan to visit temples, Tokyo Sky Tree, Disneyland, famous locations, castles, use local transport and eat local food.
A highlight of our partnership with Morioka Chuo High School—our sister school—is their annual visit to our school and their visits to the Fleurieu Peninsula. During their stay, local families host around 40 international
guests, introducing them to our tourism assets such as Victor Harbor, Mount Compass for strawberry picking, Willunga Markets, and renowned local eateries. This reciprocal arrangement strengthens international ties and
promotes our region to the global community.
By organising this biennial study tour, Seaford Secondary College is reaffirming its commitment to intercultural understanding, language learning, and the fostering of lasting friendships.
