AboutFaceDetroit has run an intensive anti litter campaign in East Village for 3 yrs. To date we have stewarded major thoroughfares throughout the neighborhood through weekly clean-ups, collaborative major clean-ups, anti-litter signage and eleven new trashcan installs w/ maintenance. Last year we activated a website: AdoptaBlock/ AboutFaceDetroit, so that the entire community would be able to join the effort in keeping us clean and shiny. The costs associated for this project are not major, yet they are significant for a small 501c3. We use yellow bags for litter and leave them on the curb for our maintenance crew to retrieve. The yellow bags are a bit more costly, but serve as reminders to the community of our dedicated mission, which then inspires them to not litter as well. Our maintenance team ensures the proper disposal of yellow bags and the emptying of the eleven garbage cans installed throughout East Village.
