Songs of Recovery: Creative Currents - Gloucester

Songs of Recovery emerges from ongoing therapeutic arts and songwriting groups facilitated within the local recovery community in Gloucester, MA. Participants -many in early recovery - use music and creative expression as a pathway to healing, self-reflection, and reconnection with purpose.

Through guided songwriting sessions, individuals collaboratively write original music that reflects their lived experiences: loss, survival, transformation, and hope. These songs are not only creative works but also powerful narratives of recovery and resilience. The project will support the professional recording of selected songs, ensuring participants feel seen, valued, and proud of their contributions.

Funds will support studio time, engineering, light production, and a community-facing listening or performance event in Gloucester. This event will invite the broader community to engage with recovery stories in a humanizing and accessible way, helping to reduce stigma around substance use and mental health.

Songs of Recovery strengthens community bonds by bridging the recovery community and the wider public through art. It affirms that recovery is not only about sobriety, but about reclaiming voice, creativity, and belonging. The project also supports long-term wellbeing by offering participants a tangible creative accomplishment and a sense of legacy beyond treatment.
