Glasgow Drop-In

We are seeking funding to support our weekly Glasgow Drop-In, a vital community space for local Care Experienced people aged 16 and over.

For many of our members, growing up in care has led to experiences of isolation, stigma, and disconnection that often continue into adulthood. The Glasgow Drop-In directly addresses this by creating a safe, welcoming place where people can come together in a shared positive identity, build friendships, and feel a true sense of belonging. It is not only a social group, but also a hub of opportunity, where members can take part in well-being activities, explore creative interests, and connect to other Who Cares? Scotland membership offers.

Now running for over two years, the Drop-In takes place every Thursday evening at our National Office in Glasgow. Each week, members can enjoy games, group activities, food, and conversation, alongside occasional special trips to the theatre, cinema, or theme parks.

Crucially, one of our Lifelong Advocates is always present. This means the Drop-In is not only fun and social, but also a safe place to seek advice, raise concerns, and access rights-based support that many otherwise struggle to find.

The impact is clear. In a recent survey, 94% of members said the Drop-In had helped them develop relationships that matter to them, and that it made them feel good about themselves. The words of participants speak volumes:

“It’s the first time in my life where I have been made to feel welcome and part of something.”
“Thursdays are my favourite day of the week, because I get to see you lot.”
“I’ve met new people and reconnected with old friends.”
“I feel safe and happy when I’m there.”
“I attend because it helps my mental health, I feel people listen to me when I'm here and it's safe, and cause the staff understand me"

The Glasgow Drop-In is more than a weekly meet-up. It is a lifeline of connection, joy, and belonging for Care Experienced people, helping them to thrive, not just survive.
