Liverpool women stand up to motherhood

The project is a documentary myself and a Liverpool-based filmmaker filmed last year, when a group of new mums in Liverpool took a brave step to find friendships and confidence.

They all decided to embark upon a comedy course - ran by a local charity - to learn how to deliver a stand-up set about their struggles with motherhood. While making jokes about their lives, we also see them battle relationship breakdown, money worries, mental health struggles, PTSD and social isolation.

But over the course of six months, they find confidence, friendships, and solidarity. With their stand-up routines perfected, they're ready to take to the final performance, in a theatre, in front of all their friends and family.

There will be free screenings of the finished film across Liverpool, including at the charity's offices, to ensure that it connects mothers across the city, and helps them feel less isolated in the common challenges facing new mothers today.
