Living Equality

The Living Equality project is designed to showcase models of “what works” for gender equality from a variety of different fields. While the effort to amend the constitution to include sex equality began many decades ago, our renewed efforts are centered on Black, Indigenous and Women of Color, gender-nonconforming and transgender women and girls, and nonbinary people– those who are most impacted by systemic inequities.

The COVID-19 pandemic, the rise of the BLM movement and all movements at the intersection of race and gender bring us to this moment. Codifying the Equal Rights Amendment as the 28th Constitutional Amendment is not/will not be easy. Making it part of our daily experience, even harder.

The FFWE advocates and amplifies the core tenets of equality – justice, representation, opportunity and advancement of all. Together with our sister organization, the ERA Coalition we will enshrine equal rights in our Constitution and will build models of equality that showcase the lived experience. Specifically, we will:
(a) Invest in education to build stakeholder awareness to support the adoption of the ERA Coalition through programming created to highlight areas where support is needed through collective action
(b) Support THOUGHT LEADERSHIP together with Partners through tactics to amplify messaging for the ERA
(c) Continue the educational series Town Halls to amplify leaders in the movement represented in our Coalition partners. Specifically highlight leaders who are from under represented communities – amplify on social media for impact. Create a community that can learn and share together.
)d)Launch a podcast Speak Equal with Carol Jenkins to highlight the lived experiences of communities
