The Joinery Hub Glasgow

*The Joinery Hub (Glasgow) CIC is a new community workshop in Drumchapel combining traditional joinery and woodworking with modern digital design and manufacturing, including CAD/CAM, CNC machining and 3D printing.

The core idea is to create a welcoming, practical environment where people can learn skills, make things and, importantly, build confidence, purpose and social connections. Our planned 12-week programmes will give participants hands-on experience of traditional joinery while introducing them to digital technology and showing how the two can work together.

The project is aimed particularly at people who may be experiencing isolation, poor mental wellbeing, low confidence or barriers to training and employment, as well as young people who would benefit from practical and creative opportunities.

We have already been speaking with organisations including Men Matter Scotland, DRC Youth Project, North West Recovery Communities and Enable Works Scotland about the potential for their service users to benefit from the workshop.

We have also received extremely encouraging feedback from organisations within construction, employability and education. Kier Group, DYW Glasgow and Construction Aware have told us they think the concept is an excellent idea. They are aware of projects offering joinery activities, but not of another project combining traditional joinery with digital design and manufacturing in the way we are proposing.

We believe this combination is what makes The Joinery Hub special. Someone could come through the door having never used a tool or designed anything digitally and leave having helped turn an idea on a computer screen into a real object they have made themselves.

A £500 Awesome Foundation grant would help us purchase materials and equipment to get practical community sessions underway and demonstrate what this new approach can achieve in Glasgow. Tell us about your awesome project!
