Math + Mini Golf

We are excited to support students learning geometry through play. Congratulations to our May 2025 grantee, Elle Staley, 4th grade teacher at Crossroads Elementary School.

According to Ms. Staley, "My 4th grade students will be starting a geometry unit in June! We are a year-round school, and keeping students engaged and learning in the summer months is a top priority. As students learn about different kinds of shapes, lines, and angles in class, I am going to extend their learning by challenging them to create their own mini golf course to enjoy with their peers and families this summer! Students will work in pairs to design a hole for the course that incorporates their geometry knowledge, such as showcasing 2D and 3D figures and measuring the angles for construction of the course. As part of this learning experience, I would love for my students to visit a mini golf course. This field trip would give students a chance to see a real-world example, modify their designs prior to construction, and have firsthand experience of what works, and doesn't when creating a hole for mini-golf."
