I have founded Under the Same Sun Psychology to support families where one parent works away for extended periods, a lifestyle I understand well since my husband works a 4:4 FIFO roster, primarily offshore in Karratha, WA.

My first project with Under the Sam Sun Psychology is a children’s book designed to normalize this experience for young children. Many occupations—such as those in the defence force, aviation, trucking, and corporate sectors—require parents to be away from home. This book will reassure them that whilst their parent might be far away, love can span any distance. It reinforces the message that although their parent leaves, "they always come back”, which is a saying my family relies on frequently. By highlighting the shared experiences of other families, I aim to build a sense of belonging and resilience for children living this reality.

I have goals of expanding Under the Same Sun Psychology from more children’s books to support for the whole family unit. This lifestyle is sustainable and manageable if the mental health of all those involved is cared for.
