PGH: Pretty Good Harmonies

Pretty Good Harmonies (PGH) is a pop-up choir in Pittsburgh, which means it is a no-commitment, no-skill necessary choir where a group of people come together on Sunday afternoons to learn how to sing two beloved pop-songs in harmony alongside a live band! PGH is for anyone who sings in the shower, belts in the car, hums a lullaby to their child at night, misses their choir days from youth, or has never been in a choir but is choir-curious. Imagine a giant, collective karaoke!

We’ve held two PGH gatherings (one in November and one in February) and they have been a HUGE success. Each event has had around 40 adults and 10 children. The adults have built connections, the kids took it upon themselves to choreograph moves to teach to everyone, and we’ve belted songs like Pink Pony Club (Chapel Roane) and Dreams (The Cranberries) in harmony that is even better than pretty good! Our plan is to make this a big, monthly, public event held at a local, family-friendly brewery. And then, eventually host additional pop-ups in neighborhoods around town.

Our team includes myself (the project manager), a choir director, and four talented musicians. Our goal for PGH is to bring people together to create connection and joy, reconnect to a sense of creativity they may not have had access to in years, and help people realize that we are better together, the whole is always more than the sum of its parts.
