Canadian Disability Justice Alliance
We want to increase the attention given to disability rights within Canadian politics, and in particular, to make disability justice a focal point of the 43rd Canadian federal election. We believe that it is important to begin work on this before the major federal parties launch their campaigns.
As our first project, we intend to draft a 'disability manifesto' to distribute to the parties, outlining areas of policy reform that are significant to the Canadian disabled community.
What our grantee is saying: "This award is going to be incredibly meaningful in terms of helping to establish an inclusive, coherent, national disability activist community in Canada, focused on policy-based approaches to disability justice. In particular, this award guarantees that we can begin to develop policy recommendations with input from intersectional disabled Canadian activists, while ensuring that we can compensate them fairly for their labour - which remains a huge barrier for multiply marginalised activists within mainstream advocacy spaces."
