The Accessible Stall is a podcast dedicated to open, honest conversation about disability issues. My cohost, Kyle Khachadurian, and I are breaking ground in the podcasting space, as we are currently one of very few shows regularly addressing disability. We have a strong, dedicated listenership and engaged fans on social media. As of the time of this application submission, we have released 34 episodes and our total number of listens stands at 16,461 – far surpassing the 26 episodes and 10,438 listens we had as of our first time applying for this grant.
Our podcast places us in a unique position, allowing us to reach beyond the echo chambers in which the disability community tends to exist, educating and connecting with people who do not have familiarity with disability experiences. This is absolutely crucial, especially in the world in which we currently live, where disability is far too often overlooked and misunderstood.
Thus far, we’ve covered topics ranging from fun (such as accessibility and Pokemon Go) to serious (such as disability and sexual assault). We also discuss current events from the disability perspective. To add depth to our conversations and amplify diverse voices, we sometimes invite guests to join our discussions.
Looking ahead, Kyle and I aim to continue expanding our listenership and growing our reach beyond the disability community. As podcasting continues to grow as a key form of media, Kyle and I are ready and excited to continue blazing a trail with The Accessible Stall.
What our grantee is saying: "We're so ecstatic that The Accessible Stall Podcast was chosen to receive the Awesome Disability grant, because it gives us support to sustain our work and continue bringing real talk about disability issues to a mainstream media platform."
