Open Frame is a year-long community photography program that transforms the Café Gallery at City Arts into a recurring home for photography in Orlando.

After my solo exhibition, Faces, I realized what many local photographers already knew: Orlando has an active photography community, but very few consistent opportunities to exhibit work, learn from one another, and engage the public. Conversations with City Arts confirmed that need, and together we began discussing how the gallery could become a recurring space dedicated to photography.

The program will feature four curated exhibitions throughout the year (January, April, July, and November), highlighting Florida photographers, an international guest photographer, and two solo exhibitions by emerging or established artists.

Each exhibition will be more than a gallery show. Every event will include an artist talk, portfolio reviews, and educational workshop covering topics such as preparing work for galleries, sequencing a photographic project, grants and opportunities, or portfolio development. These events will encourage photographers of all experience levels to learn from one another while making photography more accessible to the public.

To create a lasting record of the program, each exhibition will also be documented in a collectible printed zine that visitors can collect throughout the year.

The goal is not simply to organize four exhibitions. It is to establish an annual photography platform that strengthens Orlando's creative community by giving photographers a place to exhibit, teach, connect, and inspire future artists.
