Expanding School Snacks: Fueling More Youth

This project expands an existing school snack program that currently provides nutritious, stigma-free food to students in two high schools and two elementary schools in Newmarket. Since September 2025, the program has delivered weekly snacks such as yogurt, granola bars, apples, bananas, and string cheese to at least 550 students each week, supporting youth who experience food insecurity due to poverty. Hunger can significantly affect students’ ability to focus, learn, and feel supported during the school day and many come to school feeling happy to obtain nutrition from school snack bins. With support from the Awesome Foundation, this project will expand the program to additional schools in Newmarket, increasing access to consistent, healthy snacks for more youth. Funding will be used directly for food purchases and distribution, allowing for immediate, measurable impact while advancing the goal of Zero Hunger at a local level in Newmarket
.
This project advances the UN Sustainable Development Goal of Zero Hunger by increasing food security and access to nutritious snacks for youth experiencing poverty in Newmarket schools.
