Chaos Arts | LGBTQIA+ Dance classes

Since January, we’ve been running free weekly dance classes for the LGBTQIA+ community of Liverpool City Region at studios on Hope Street in Liverpool City Centre. These classes provide a vital safe space for queer people to engage in physical activity, socialise, and connect.

The project tackles health & wellbeing inequalities by promoting fitness, reducing isolation, and offering alternatives to nightlife-focused socialising. Participants are also given the chance to perform at events throughout the year.

So far, over 50 queer people aged 18+ from across the region have taken part. In April, the group performed publicly for the first time at Leap Festival’s community event at Sefton Park Palm House, dancing for an audience of 500+.

The impact has been profound. We've built a regular post-class social where members connect and relax. Core members now attend weekly, have performed publicly, attended live performances, and volunteered at Leap Festival events.

Recent changes in law regarding Trans people and the loss of Liverpool Pride for 2025 has meant that this project is more vital than ever as the community looks to alternative ways to connect and respond to the increasing scrutiny and hatred in a safe space.

As an organisation our core purpose is to improve the lives of people in Liverpool City Region through active participation in arts activity and we know first hand that this project improves the lives of our participants.
