Trash Fish

This project promotes accessibility to the one of the regions largest natural resources: the Cuyahoga River. Equipping our communities with resources turns this regional divide into a place for recreation and togetherness. Trash Fish gets people of all walks of life into a kayak and onto the water cleaning up trash!
Eddie paddles volunteers to places on the water where trash collects and provides an educational talk on the environmental justice issues regarding where plastics come from and how microplastics end up in Lake Erie which is the drinking water source for millions of people. As Trash Fishers are filling garbage bags full of garbage, they gain perspective on the destructive nature of single-use plastics.
This exercise leads to ownership over our natural resources in a tangible and pragmatic approach. Reduce your consumption of plastic. As Cleveland Scene has put it, this project helps "teach Clevelanders the easiest way to clean the river is to fundamentally change how they behave as consumers from the start.”
