The Migrant Women Professional Women Network started as one woman trying to create the space she wished she had.

When Kim arrived in Australia as an international student, she had the qualifications and drive — but not the network. Like many migrant women, she struggled to navigate the job market and the unwritten rules of workplaces.

So she started a small gathering for migrant women to connect, share, and support each other. That small gathering has grown into the Migrant Women Professional Network.

Since 2023, MWPN has run monthly events and connected over 600 women from more than 40 countries.

At these events, women build confidence, form friendships, open up opportunities through connections — and some land jobs.

What makes this “awesome” is that it already works. It’s grassroots, volunteer-led, and until now, largely run by one person — with no funding.

But to keep going and reach more women, it needs to grow beyond one person.
That’s why the Awesome Foundation Adelaide funded this project. We wanted to help this amazing group of women to build structure, share the load, and expand their impact.
