The Neighborly Hustle

At Pittsburgh Behavioral Services, we’re flipping the script on vocational training. We want to move beyond the four walls of the classroom and give our students the tools to build a life of independence and purpose.

The Neighborly Hustle is a student-led "giving engine." The mission starts with our Care Kit Assembly Line: students will learn logistics, inventory management, and fine motor skills by curated high-quality toiletry bags for neighbors in need at the City Hope Center Pittsburgh. This isn’t just practice; it’s a real-world operation.

This is Phase One of a "Full Circle" vocational path. Once our students master the kit assembly, we’re branching out into The Flour Power Bakery and our own community garden. We aren’t just preparing them for a job; we’re preparing them to be the leaders, makers, and givers of the Steel City.

By assembling these kits, our students learn that they have the power to impact someone else’s life. It builds immense self-esteem to go from "someone who needs help" to "someone who provides help." We are tackling the "post-graduation cliff" by replacing anxiety with a resume and a sense of community belonging. It’s vocational training with a giant Pittsburgh heart.
