Newcastle CALD Tutoring Centre

The Newcastle CALD Tutoring Centre is a community-driven initiative designed to support young people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, especially refugees and migrants. Many of these students face significant barriers such as language challenges, disrupted schooling, and limited access to educational resources, which impact their academic performance and confidence.

The centre will provide free English and Math tutoring sessions for high school students every Thursday, running weekly two-hour programs from February to November. These sessions will be led by qualified educators and trained volunteers who will provide individualised support to improve literacy, numeracy, and overall academic skills.

Project Aims:

Prepare students for their educational pathways by introducing them to different options for higher education and careers.

Encourage refugee and migrant students to pursue education opportunities confidently and overcome barriers to participation.

Provide mentoring to help students choose their future field of study and understand the steps needed to achieve their goals.

Foster social inclusion and community connection by creating a culturally safe and supportive environment.

Offer workshops for parents to better engage with their children’s education.

By bridging these gaps, the Newcastle CALD Tutoring Centre will not only improve academic outcomes but also inspire a lifelong love of learning and ambition for future success.
